Another bench… I’m loving benches at the moment!
This stunning late Victorian, early 20th-century ebonised window bench is a beautiful example of the Aesthetic Movement. Crafted from solid oak, it’s adorned with intricate carvings - floral motifs that might just be poppies - running around each of the friezes in a style reminiscent of Liberty’s iconic lotus designs. The bench stands on striking bobbin-turned legs with matching side supports, making it a delight to admire from every angle.
A versatile piece that would shine in a window, hallway, or anywhere a touch of charm and practicality is needed.
Condition Report
In excellent antique condition, with a slightly rustic edge that enhances its character without detracting from its appeal. The bench top planks have shrunk with age, and as such, there is a split at the join in the seat, very common in old oak. Structurally solid and full of life.
The photographs form part of the condition report, so please review them carefully. Further images or a video viewing can be provided on request. Viewings are welcome at our Southampton unit, strictly by appointment.
