Mid Georgian Mahogany Chest Of Drawers
This is a gorgeous, high quality mid-Georgian mahogany chest of drawers. It can dated between 1750-1780 based on the rebated ovolo molding around the drawer fronts, and because the grain of the drawer bottoms go from front to back rather than side to side. It would have started life as the top half of a chest-on-chest style piece, converted to a single chest when they fell out of fashion. It features three short drawers over three long, graduated drawers, all solid oak with mahogany fronts, featuring classic Georgian canted, fluted corners and ovolo rebated drawer fronts. The chest is in excellent condition considering its age, with only minor marks to the top and sides. I've given the polish a light revival and a good wax polish. The drawers have some wear to the runners, as would be expected with up to 270 years of use, but have plenty of life left in them. It has had a few repairs to the veneer by the drawer hangers - as can be seen from the photos. The chest has also had the handles and feet changed at various points in its life - the Victorians loved upcycling! But all in all, an excellent antique Georgian chest of drawers.
