Beautiful moody river scene depicting a river meandering through a rock on a cloudy day. The back of the painting there are a couple of inscriptions, in pencil:
"Near Keswick, by G, F, Slater"
And another in pen, that reads:
"To: Billy Bird and Given,
On their honeymoon,
Allendale, North d.
12960
From: C. + M. Halstead"
Indicating that the painting was given as a wedding present back in 1935.
Without doubt the painting is by John Falconer Slater (1857 – 1937)
