This Regency period flame mahogany side cupboard offers both elegance and functionality. Featuring a metamorphic writing desk hidden within the top drawer, it transforms seamlessly by lifting a top flap to reveal a beautifully crafted writing slope, complete with compartmentalized sections for stationery. Behind the double doors, three internal shelves provide ample storage space, and the piece is finished with classic acanthus leaf feet. With working locks and keys, this cupboard not only brings charm but is also highly practical.
Condition Report
In excellent, solid condition, this piece has weathered the years gracefully. There are a few historic repairs at the top rear, likely from a gallery that may have been there originally. The top bears a light scratch and a couple of minor blemishes, and the left door is solid despite a small split in the top and bottom rails, likely due to natural settlement of the timber over time. Additionally, there is slight rippling in the veneer on the left stile, but the piece remains sturdy and sound. Altogether, this side cupboard reflects its long history, adding to its unique appeal.
