A beautiful and evocative 19th-century leather-bound domed strapwork chest, often affectionately referred to as a “pirate’s trunk.” Full of charm and character, this piece offers not only decorative appeal but also practical storage.
The surface shows wear and history in all the right places - a chest that clearly has stories to tell. Inside the lid is a rare surviving document storage section (most are long gone or torn out); the small internal door has detached over time but is still present.
Condition Report
Generally excellent antique condition. The side carrying straps are long gone, and there are some minor tears to the bound leather, all in keeping with age and use. Structurally sound and ready for continued service.
The photographs form part of the condition report, so please review them carefully. Further images or a video viewing can be provided on request. Viewings are welcome at our Southampton unit, strictly by appointment.
