A distinguished William IV brass-bound campaign writing slope in walnut, dated 1836. The top carries a brass cartouche engraved “W.P.”, flanked by brass campaign handles to each side. Opening the slope reveals the original lock and key, a leather writing surface, and the classic twin storage compartments with pen and ink recesses. The concealed compartment operates as it should, housing three miniature drawers above the full-depth lower drawer, secured with the original brass pin—a discreet arrangement ideal for private papers. A refined and fully functional example of early 19th-century campaign cabinetry.
Condition Report
In excellent antique condition with age-commensurate surface marks. The leather has split along the hinge line, as commonly seen, and shows minor wear. A historic repair is present around the brass escutcheon, and there are small marks to the exterior finish. There is a small beading loss to around the left hinge - see photos - but bearly noticable.
The photographs form part of the condition report, so please review them carefully. Further images or a video viewing can be provided on request. Viewings are welcome at our Southampton unit, strictly by appointment.
