A good sized English oak panelled chest dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, built with pinned mortice-and-tenon joinery and classic fielded panels. The two-plank top retains its original strap iron hinges and opens to reveal an internal candle box, all part of its honest working history. The scale is generous without being overbearing, and the weight and feel speak to centuries of use. A proper, functional early oak chest with real presence.
Condition Report
Excellent antique condition overall. A small amount of historic worm is visible on the back, long dormant and entirely stable. The chest is structurally solid, with no looseness and no concerns.
