A Victorian mahogany sentry wardrobe of substantial scale, constructed in flame mahogany throughout. The central section is arranged as a chest of two over five graduated drawers, flanked by a pair of full-height sentry cupboards.
Each cupboard door is set with projecting arched panels in well-figured mahogany and opens to an interior fitted with an extending hanging rail and turned pegs. The drawers retain their turned pulls and working locks. Triangular cornices to the outer sections, echoed by a pediment above the central chest, give the piece a cohesive, architectural form. All raised on a plinth base reflecting an inverted breakfront outline.
The wardrobe breaks down into seven sections for transport. The plinth is fitted with lignum vitae castors to assist with positioning.
A well-considered arrangement, combining hanging and drawer storage within a single, balanced piece.
Condition Report
In excellent antique condition. Minor knocks, scratches, and small chips consistent with age. The drawers run well throughout, including the lower drawers. One door has a light scratch. The outer sides have been sympathetically re-polished; the remainder retains its original surface. Minor loss to one drawer pull and a small veneer loss to the inner top of the left cupboard. Light wear to the plinth where the doors meet. Structurally solid.
